THE VENEZUELAN BELL

In the past few months, in the past few days, down to these very minutes, we have been viewing what appears to be a new experiment, but which is actually the a child of the bygone XX century: the birth of a totalitarian regime.
A symbolical transit from classic Latin American style authoritarianism to Socialist neo-totalitarianism is incarnated in Venezuela’s Dictator President Hugo Chavez. An event is about to take place which is to mark the final political metamorphosis now taking place in Caracas: the closing down of the country’s main independent television station, Radio Caracas Television.
Chavez has commanded that the RCTV’s broadcasting permit not be renewed, as of 11:59 pm of May 27th. In its place there will be a "public" television station, whose actual task will be to act as the dictator’s mouthpiece.
After intimidating his opponents, nationalizing oil resources, subduing the judiciary, militarizing the country and tightening its relationship with Fidel Castro ever more, the Venezuelan regime proves it is not above repressing freedom of speech, to the point of even announcing derisively that no political or humanitarian protest stands a chance of having any effect whatsoever.
In Venezuela, right now, in these very minutes, government propaganda is becoming increasingly fanatical and obsessive. It reaches each and every public entity, school, hospital and baseball field, and is accompanied by an appeal for more people to sign up with the Partito Socialista Unitario. Besides targeting freedom-minded reporters, businessmen, and independent trade unions, the propaganda also takes aim at the Catholic Church which, here as elsewhere, stands up for the oppressed. An alliance with Ahmadinejad’s Iran (See libertates.com, Sezione internazionale) heralds a new Islamo-Marxist ideology (theorized by international terrorist Carlos), which aims to be exported wherever possible .
Thus the Chavez regime today is a threat not only to Venezuelans but to all those who, the world over, love freedom and democracy.
Therefore our struggle must start from here, by defending freedom in Venezuela, by denouncing the outrages on an international level, by campaigning forcefully to isolate Chavez in all fields and by supplying our help to those who would oppose him.
It falls once again to us to be the torch-bearers: so that no one may ever again say (as has so often been the case in the history of the peoples of South America and of the world): "you left us alone".
We stand with Radio Caracas Television, with Free Venezuela and with those who are fighting by their side.
We are all Venezuelans.
