EU? No, thanks. (After the election of Mr. and Mrs. Nobody)
Tuesday, 24 November 2009 22:43

Catherine AshtonAll together, European media and politicians now critize the choice of the Belgian Van Rompuy and the British baroness Ashton to represent EU at top level (the so called President and Foreign Minister, although if their real task will be mainly symbolic and limited to organization).

The reason for that is well understandable: both of them are almost unknown in our continent, and therefore in the rest of the world. So, many critize the low-profile nomination, may others wonder if there has been a sort of secret pact between Germany and France to boycott the British candidate to Presidency (the well known and popular Tony Blair) and the Italian Massimo D’Alema (well known also but post-communist) to Foreign Policy.

We, Freedom Committees, prefer to warn the European citizens from other dangers. The so called President and Foreign Policy supremo are not only unimpressive and unknown political actors, but also unelected directly by people, nor undirectly by the European Parliament. This is the reason for which, we think, EU lacks more and more interest, becoming a sort of burocratic power wasting citizen’s money.

And there is even is more: according to the spirit of the Lisbon Treaty, we have now a right-wing President with a left-wing Foreign Minister: instead of a clear political line and strategy, confusion is granted. This is also due to the typical spirit of the proportional election system: you never know who is responsible for what, power is shared more or less by every party, and if you make a choice in one direction, you can be sure: the next move will be in the opposite.

Freedom Committes warn and oppose to politics old style: we ask majority system, direct democracy, and federalism against any centralization of decisions.
