The title of the book is “Omaggio alla Bielorussia” (“Homage to Belarus”), written by Zianon Pazniak and translated in Italian by the same Valeri Bujval. To understand the full meaning of this story, it’s important to notice that in Belarus, namely differently from other former soviet countries like Ukraine or Russia, the KGB is still alive and powerful, and organizes regular repressions against every form of dissent. The country is run by the so called “last communist dictator” in Europe, Aleksandr Lukashenko, in strict connection with pro-russian political forces within the country and abroad. The book, which we invite to buy trough this site, is the first open analysis of the story, culture, politics and struggle of Belarusians for national independence. The title recalls the famous “Homage to Catalonia”, the George Orwell’s reportage about the Stalinist repression during the civil war. Zianon Pazniak is the leader in exile of the Belarusian Resistence. Valeri Bujval is an art historician, member of the “Popularni Front” (Popular Front opposing the beralusian dictatorship) and founder of the Freedom Commttees in his country. |

Who says that communism is dead? A few days ago, the Patronage member of the Freedom Committees, Valeri Bujval, has been stopped at the border between Belarus and Poland: the KGB agents confiscated two copies of a book printed by our publishing house, which he was taking to Poland.
