Was it really necessary such a quick and radical decision? Maybe, according to the majority of the current public opinion in the USA; but no, if we consider the real goal on the mission “Surge”. This one meant a complete victory on the field, not only the elimination of Al Qaeda terroristic net. If the goal had been only to kill Osama, than it would not have been necessary to send troops in Afghanistan. The real goal was, and remains, to build up a democracy in the area and to eliminate a possible basis for future aggressions against the Western Countries. Obama gives up the real achievement, concerned as he is by his own popularity and the possible re-election to the White House. If this is the Democrats “American Dream”, well, it will probably turn out as a nightmare in the near future. |

President Obama has decided to take the American troops home: 10,000 soldiers within this year, and still 33,000 within summer 2012, followed by a drawdown if the situation on the battlefield will allow the final retreat.
